Cafe Culture Redefined: MERAKI Cafe in Chennai

Are you looking for a quiet getaway from your hectic schedule? Then ECR in Chennai is the best place to be. With so many unique cafes to explore, we stumbled upon this quiet, hidden cafe in Kapaleeswarar Nagar Neelankarai. Meraki cafe designed by drawing hands studio has done a brilliant job for the visitors to experience a new type of modern tropical cafe.
This cafe is divided into five prime spaces: The reception, terrace dining, indoor dining, outdoor dining, and open-air theatre area.

Entry:
A silent road in a quiet residential area is suddenly dominated by a navy blue outer wall with much of greenery trying to cover it. The entrance is overgrown with plants, making it look and feel like entering a hidden cave on the way to the reception area.

Reception:
This space slowly transits us from the outer to the interior tropical ambiance of the cafe.
The right wall is painted with leaf mural art works and the left is dominated by real living plants. Our eye flows with the wooden rafters on the ceiling. The cement-finished flooring is an introduction to the brutal touch of the cafe.

Terrace dining:
A small terrace painted in cherry pink with hanging leaves takes us to the terrace level. This dining area is dominated by many colours, but still cherry pink keeps us grounded in the cafe. This dining area is the best spot to enjoy a cool breezy evening.

Indoor Dining:
This space is below the terrace dining. To escape the heat of Chennai, we can opt to dine in. The glass and metal frames of the exterior made a beautiful contrast to the interior, allowing the two to flow together. The Interior is played beautifully with the right wall painted in a rough grey with three circular mirrors, creating order to the brutal plane. The opposite wall brushed with cherry pink played the role of a canvas for the metal showcase before it.

Outdoor dining:
The grey cement-finished furniture plays well with the hanging plants and the wooden rafters of the space. This creates a tropical vibe to dine. The space acts as a transition between the exterior and the interior as a semi-opened dining area.

Open-air theatre with green space:
The outdoor seating area takes us back to college, as the entire open area is dominated by natural greenery. The domination of cherry pink in the cafe is minimized by natural green. Small stone sculptures popping out from the grass with a pink painted mural art wall in the background act fantastic to the overall theme.
