Approximately
45kms from Madurai is the bustling town called as Sivagangai in Tamil Nadu.
Sivagangai is the district capital holding all the potential to earn the title
of being a city. This town displays a pure form of chaos in its architecture
and planning, with not a single building following a particular pattern or
repetition. But that shows the beauty of the diversity of the town.
In this chaos we find a unique white
building on a silent narrow street connected to Nehru bazaar, which stays as
the shopping, high street for the town.
This white home in a silent corner breaks all the chaos that flows through the
town and brings dominance with its unique facade, and becomes the talk of the
town.
Elevation
North-East view of the building stays grandeur because of the wide-road on the east side of the plot compared to the north, narrow road. This wide road helps us to enjoy the facade from the outside.East facade having the balcony on the first floor with the lawn area connected to the ground level.
Although the view from the high street is very minimal; the unique display of the white bands, groves and cornices makes the building unique among other nearby buildings.
The north facade has the abstract resemblance of an aircraft, with the center having a glass railing and the adjacent sides having an elevated parapet wall.
There are three levels for this property: Ground-level, Mid-level and Top-level.
Ground-level: Having the living area, dining, kitchen with access to the east side lawn within the property, three bedrooms with two attached toilets and one common toilet with shower
Living
The dominance of the white exterior gets subtle as we enter the living area; the threshold is created beautifully by the walnut brown, teak, main door. Italian marble (sofita) gives the vibe of flowing throughout the interior. The brown stripes in the marble blend harmoniously with the walnut brown wood in the room. The dominance of the white walls in the interior is broken down by the warm lights and the neutral white lights from the ceiling.Dining
Dining area is attached to the living with no space dividers, but with a double ceiling height and a chandelier falling right on our plates; making the entire space bigger and becomes the key center of the entire building.Kitchen
Connected from the dining but with a door, this space contradicts whatever was shown before with a completely new ambience, with metallic green dominating the entire space and the white lights making you focus on cooking. The lawn is accessible from the kitchen; making things easy for vessel washing and drying; it’s common in rural parts of south India to dry your vessels and clothes outside in the sun.Bedroom
Each bedroom on both the floors has different tiles on the floor; trying to standalone from sofita marble but still bridges the gap between walnut brown and the marble tone.Mid-level: accessible from the living/dining area
stairway; has two bedrooms with attached toilets and shower rooms, one balcony
on the east side of the property and an attached terrace overlooking the North
side road.
The stair way to mid-level tries to steal the entire show with the Italian
marble on its surface and the strip lights inside its nosing, taking you up
towards a much more beautiful display of interior. At this level, the dominant
view of the chandeliers and the marble on the floor with the wooden handrail
makes you wonder if this is a house or a royal tour inside an English castle.
Open terrace and Balcony
Open terrace on the northern side of the building gives you the view of the street and to enjoy a peaceful cup of tea in the evening. The grey tiles on this level calming the ambience while enjoying the cool breeze.Eastern side has the balcony space can be used for drying the clothes and view the lawn area from an elevation. The view on this side is much open and broad compared to the northern one because of the wide road and fewer buildings on the east.
Top-level: Accessible from the mid-level terrace with a spiral stairway taking us to the top level.
Not a common terrace; don’t be fooled by the terracotta tiles. This space can be a hangout spot during night parties. The beautiful view from the terrace is to die for.
Each level steals the show elegantly on this property.
