Chennai has recently undergone a culinary transformation, becoming a bustling hub for food lovers. Street vendors, local cuisines, and international food experiences have worked to perfection.
This new boom in social media bringing out all these hidden cafes and food spots in the city is great news for all food lovers.Recently I visited a Japanese restaurant that transported me to that country. Hokkaido Chennai; is a Japanese experience for all food lovers and for the ones who love to try out all new cuisines. You don’t need an expensive flight ticket to try out their menu, but a short drive would be enough to take you to Japan.
Ambience
Warm lights and a cozy wooden interior fill the ambiance. The wooden furniture plays a huge role in bringing Japan to Alwarpet. The inner dining area with hanging exhaust for the live dining counter takes a higher step, making you remove your footwear to enter. The floor is divided into levels; a higher one for walking and a lower one for seating; creating a traditional Japanese dining experience.
Food
The menu serves a variety of dishes, starting from starters, sushi, and ramen to live grill counter to experience something unique. The online community promoted this live grill experience, which made us to try this for the first time in Chennai. But the real question is; was it worth it to spend Rs 2000 for 150 grams of beef brisket?
Absolutely NO!
Instead of wasting two grand on this live grill experience, we can try their sushi and starters; combined with the ambiance is more than enough. The live grill was just for the show; the taste was not good and the meat was half-cooked. The live grill experience at this restaurant is just for the show and is a great rip-off.
Overall, food quality has to be improved, and the hype created is not worth it.
But the design and ambiance of this restaurant are perfect and would be a lovely place to try to experience something new.
