GOAT The Greatest Of All Time: Is it really great or a disaster for Ktown?

Goat: The Greatest of All Time released on 5th September 2024. This movie had people waiting from all around the world, as it will be Thalapathy Vijay’s lead combination with Mankatha director Venkat Prabhu.

The 3-hour film had ups and downs; twists and turns, but was it worth all the hype and wait?

This would be Thalapathy’s 68th film and he has promised to retire after doing 69 films to enter politics. This created much more hype for the film and his fans gathered in huge numbers. For fans, whatever may be the script; they are going to enjoy and celebrate the movie.
While talking to some of his mature fans, half were critical and half enjoyed the movie and the experience. The new-gen audience loved the film for its commercial touch and they enjoyed seeing Thalapathy’s young and negative shade on the screen.

What is Working?

Thalapathy’s acting was perfect; he delivered it with perfection in both his roles; being Gandhi and Jeevan; both left an enormous mark on the audience.
The first half entertained us commercially and the second half took a deep turn into the story.
Other characters like Sneha, Prashant, and Prabhu Deva did their part well.
Unlike other twists in the screenplay; Prabhu Deva, revealing his shade, was perfect.

But even with such a great budget it didn’t satisfy all the audience, even the general audience left the theaters unsatisfied.

What went wrong?

It is pure Thalapathy domination; he was there everywhere for that 3 hrs. It’s great for the ones who came to see his magic but not for the ones who came to experience a VP film.
The director had less time to complete this humongous project and we as the audience can easily see that on the screen. Starting with VFX, de-aging, song placement, and AI cameo; nothing worked out, and it was a disaster.
Even hardcore Thalapathy fans can’t deny the fact that “spark-song” took most of the spark from the movie.
The first half had a humorous attempt and a bit of drama; the second half took pace; but was it too late? And was the pace enough to hold the entire movie?

Overall Experience:

Each audience has unique tastes; some like artsy films and some just want to experience the stardom. In this era of social media, how can we frame a movie, good or bad? We have access to global cinema at our fingertips. Everyone knows how the craft works and the qualities of an excellent film. A reviewer’s perspective is an individual opinion and not how everyone perceives the craft.

For me, as a theater experience, this movie did the part well; but if you ask another one, he/she might say this movie is a disaster. It all lies within individual experience.
Obviously, some horrible movies lack screenplay, writing, acting, etc. But The Greatest of all Time is not one among them.
It’s a screen-grabbing commercial entertainer with Thalapathy, stealing the entire show.
But other than Thalapathy, this movie has nothing.
